In 2018, I came across a book on carving at the community library.  After trying to carve a green man, a Celtic knot and some figures in basswood, I found YouTube videos on other styles of carving from chip carving to busts in stone.  Once I came across spoon and bowl carving things clicked.  I have been carving spoons and bowls ever since.

A spoon is a remarkably complex sculptural object that has to function well and look good.  Spoon carving is hugely popular in the UK and Europe.  Several green woodworking Facebook groups currently provide a community to learn and become inspired.  Designing spoons and bowls that are both functional and attractive is a fun and fascinating challenge.  Chip carving and kolrosing are two new decorative styles I am currently mastering.

I am currently making spoons, bowls, walking stick toppers, figures and other objects.  Several area shops display my carvings and I do custom commissions for gifts and special events.
